Recording sightings is important so that campaigning groups know the state of nature in the UK.
There are websites run by British Trust for Ornithology such as Garden Birdwatch where individuals can enter records of birds, mammals, amphibians, butterflies, insects etc.
Using that tool people can manage changes in their own environment ; it doesn’t have recording spaces for flora.
For this year only BTO is running a legacy project called Birds in Green Spaces for anyone to enter sightings and the Sherborne places listed are: the cemetery; the Quarr, Pageant Gardens, the Terrace Playing fields, and Tinney’s playing field and area. One of the criteria for that study is to have, subject to exceptions, the area enclosed by 50% or more of housing or industrial area and freely accessible to the public.
